What people are saying about Are You My Mother?
August 11th, 2010

Pitchfork.com gives it 6.5 out of 10

“The album was made in an improvised studio that Calder and her producer created in her childhood home, and its setting adds an intimacy and an off-the-cuff quality to many of the songs.”

NOWtoronto.com gives it 4 out of 5

Pastemagazine.com gives it an 8 out of 10!

“The shaggy “If You Only Knew” would make for a harvest-fest dance gem, and the piano-recital pomp of “Low” is less a requiem than a cozy rallying cry for navel-gazers everywhere.”

AustinTownHall.com gives it a 3.5 out of 5

“From the production of Are You My Mother? to Kathryn Calder ’s incredibly delicate voice, you see the rise of a solitary musician.  Her hard work honing her craft definitely has paid off here, creating a gentle collection of pop songs capable of warming your heart and spirit.”

Faronheit

“Kathryn Calder shines above many other women making similar-sounding music.”

OttawaCitizen.com gives it a 4 out of 5 stars

“Kathryn Calder’s beautiful solo debut achieves that delicate balance of being confessional yet open-ended.

“Her basket of musical gifts runneth over…”

Treblezine.com

“Calder eases the listener in gently, with the minor key twinkle of “Slip Away” setting a tearjerky stage for what ultimately becomes an album of strongly crafted pop songs that swing from the stark and sad to the quirky and upbeat.”
