Gaining fans with every performance, Dan Mangan is slowly making his way from Vancouver to the depths of your listening environment. With a thoughtful delivery (think M. Ward), Dan’s weather-beaten vocals serve as a graceful conduit for his thoughtful lyrics. As an emerging young artist, he finds himself in the footsteps of Ryan Adams, Damien Rice or Bright Eyes, building a grass roots following of loyal listeners just a few ears at a time.
Dan took to the guitar and piano as a child and found himself memorizing Abbey Road’s side ‘B’ in no time. With a deep respect for creative integrity, Mangan’s focus from day one has been to honour the power of words. At the tender age of 23, his maturity as a lyricist is refreshing; as a performer, his presence is magnetic.
In 2006, Dan showcased at the New Music West festival in Vancouver, NxNE in Toronto and the Western Canadian Music Awards in Winnipeg, garnering a quick and viral excitement throughout the Canadian music scene. Never one to rest on his laurels, Dan also collaborated and shared stages with several national literary treasures - namely spoken word artist Shane Koyczan (also of Tons Of Fun University) and acclaimed storyteller Ivan Coyote. Mangan performed for a BRAVO television feature and live for XM Satellite’s 52 “The Verge” with Montreal act Champion. Single Journal of a Narcoleptic has seen daily rotation on “The Verge” since June ‘06 along with seven minute fan-fave So Much For Everyone - which became the channel‘s 4th most played song in July alongside the likes of The Dears and The Meligrove Band. In 2006, Dan also licensed songs to Canadian television shows “Whistler” and “Renegade Press”.
On July 10th, 2007 Dan Mangan will re-release Postcards And Daydreaming with an extended bonus track via File Under: Music. Also on deck: two west coast USA tours, SxSW, MusExpo & The Great Escape Festival in Brighton, UK.
